Technical Rescue

We train like our life depends on it

Technical Rescue Services (HCBVEC Sector 6)

Technical Rescue is the specialized side of the fire service focused on complex incidents where a person is trapped, inaccessible, or in immediate danger and requires special equipment, advanced training, and disciplined safety procedures. These rescues are time-critical and often high-risk—both for the patient and for rescuers—so every operation is managed with strict scene control and a strong emphasis on preventing a second emergency.

At H. Cuerpo de Bomberos Voluntarios de El Centenario (HCBVEC) Sector 6, our volunteer firefighters and paramedics respond to technical rescue incidents throughout our coverage area and, when requested, in support of our mutual-aid partners in the City of La Paz.

Specialized Areas of Technical Rescue We Provide

Vehicle Extrication (“Rescate Vehicular”)

When a person is trapped in a vehicle after a collision, our team works to:
* Stabilize the vehicle to prevent movement or rollover
* Provide rapid medical access and patient protection
* Perform controlled door, roof, and dash displacement techniques when required
* Coordinate care and removal to reduce further injury

Rope Rescue / High-Angle Rescue (“Rescate con Cuerdas”)

For incidents involving cliffs, steep terrain, ravines, construction sites, or elevated locations, we use rope systems to:
* Reach and secure victims in difficult access areas
* Raise or lower rescuers and patients in a controlled manner
* Operate with redundant safety systems and edge protection

Confined Space Rescue (“Rescate en Espacios Confinados”)

Confined spaces can include pits, tanks, cisterns, small utility spaces, and other restricted-entry areas. These incidents may involve atmospheric hazards and require:
* Careful hazard assessment before entry
* Continuous monitoring and ventilation when applicable
* Retrieval planning and patient packaging for safe removal

Water / Flood / Swiftwater Support (“Rescate en Inundaciones”)

During storms, flash flooding, or water-related emergencies, we may respond to:
* People trapped by rising water in arroyos, low crossings, or flooded streets
* Evacuations from unsafe areas
* Support operations where access is limited and conditions change rapidly

(If conditions exceed safe operating limits, we will coordinate with additional resources through mutual aid.)

Search Support / Wilderness Rescue (“Búsqueda y Rescate”)

When a person is missing or stranded—especially in remote or rugged areas—our team can assist with:
* Organized search operations and perimeter control
* Patient location, initial care, and extraction planning
* Coordination with authorities and partner agencies

Lift, Move, and Heavy Object Rescue (“Levantamiento y Movimiento”)

For incidents involving pinned or trapped victims under heavy objects, we can provide:
* Stabilization of unstable loads
* Controlled lifting using mechanical advantage and rescue tools
* Safe patient access and removal while protecting rescuers and bystanders

What to Expect at a Technical Rescue Scene

To protect the public and our team, technical rescue scenes require strong control and clear procedures:
* Establishing a safety perimeter and restricting access
* Hazard assessment (traffic, power lines, unstable structures, gas leaks, water hazards, etc.)
* A structured rescue plan before committing rescuers into danger
* Close coordination between rescue operations and medical care

This is why you may see rescuers move deliberately, pause to reassess, or request additional resources—speed matters, but unsafe speed costs lives.

* For emergencies, call 9-1-1 (C4 Dispatch) and request HCBVEC Sector 6.
